Compass360 Teams Up with Kensai Racing

Toronto — April 3rd, 2006

Two of the top teams in Grand Am Cup announced today they'll be joining forces in 2006 to compete for race wins and the championship. Kensai Racing and Compass360, both based in Toronto, Canada will be fielding an Acura RSX for drivers Karl Thomson and David Ciekiewicz.

The RSX has proven to be a competitive platform in Grand Am Cup and Ciekiewicz is keen to drive the Acura: "Kensai have a lot of experience with these cars, and have the results to back it up. Make no mistake, their RSXs are some of the best-prepared cars in the paddock."

For Thomson, whose Compass360/Racing team fielded BMW Z3 Coupes in 2005 and 2004, the move from Team Owner to Driver means a new focus. "After two years with BMW, and with Porsche in 2003, I'm looking forward to racing the RSX and concentrating on driving. The boys at Kensai are great guys and they've shown they can create a competitive car. I'm honored that they've asked me to be a part of their team."

Thomson ended the 2005 season by taking the ST-class win at VIR, while Ciekiewicz managed two top tens in just three races. "Dave and I drove together a few times last year, and I'm thrilled he's my team-mate in '06," said Thomson. "We've both got similar speed and driving styles, so we've got a good chance to get the RSX up front every race."

Ciekiewicz and Thomson will share the #76 at a number of races in 2006, but won't run the entire season. They join season-long team-mates Travis Walker and Aaron Povoledo who command the #75 Kensai Racing car. "Travis put the car on pole at the Daytona season opener this year, so it's clear the cars can do well," said Ciekiewicz, grinning. "Our goal is to squeeze both cars onto the podium some time in 2006."

For Ray Lee at Kensai, the signing of these drivers rounds out their roster for much of the season. "We know the cars are good. With the addition of Thomson and Ciekiewicz for a bunch of races, we've now got the driving talent to match." The team fielded two different Acuras in 2004 -- a TSX and RSX -- and relishes the single focus they'll have with just one model. "Walker and Pov showed our RSX was capable last year (they finished 3rd at Mosport)," states Lee. "2006 looks to be a great year for Kensai."

The next race for the Kensai Racing with Compass360 car is the Grand Am Cup event at Virginia International Raceway, April 21st and 22nd, 2006. The event will be broadcast tape-delayed on SPEED Channel.
